I bargained with Life for a penny
And Life would pay no more,
However I begged at evening
When I counted my scanty store.
For Life is a just employer
She gives you what you ask,
But once you have set the wages,
Why, you must bear the task.
I worked for a menial's hire,
Only to learn, dismayed,
That any wage I had asked of Life,
Life would have willingly paid. |

It's easy enough to be pleasant
When Life goes by like a song,
But the man worthwhile,
Is the man with a smile,
When everything goes dead wrong |

If you think you are beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you don't.
If you'd like to win, but think you can't
It's almost a cinch you won't.
If you think you'll lose, you've lost,
For out in the world we find
Success beings with a fellow's will;
It's all in the state of mind.
If you think you're outclassed, you are:
You've got to think high to rise.
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.
Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But soon or late the man who wins
Is the one who thinks he can. |

Man is made or unmade by himself; in the armory of
thought he forges the weapons by which he destroys himself. He also
fashions the tools with which he builds for himself heavenly mansions of
joy and strength and peace.
By the right choice and true application of thought,
man ascends to the Divine Perfection;
by the abuse and wrong application of thought,
he descends below the level of the beast.
Between these two extremes are all the grades of character,
and man is their maker and master |

Thoughts lead on to words and purposes;
Words and purposes go forth in actions;
Actions form habits;
Habits decide character;
And character becomes your destiny |
